Home Calls

Many of our forgotten heroes are unable to leave their dwelling due to disabilities or life long injuries that severely impair their way of life. In these situations, when a family member or spouse are not available to come on the Veterans behalf, we will come to you.

All Veterans that are considered home bound are still eligible for the financial assistance services and Veterans Affairs claims and benefits assistance as veterans that come into our agency. When our ageny has a request for home bound assistance, many factors are considered. Home bound assistance is available to those living in a private dwelling, as well as group or nursing homes. Requirements for having a Service Officer come out to your location is as follows;

  • Veteran is a Summit County resident
  • Veteran is unable to transport themselves by either a personally owned vehicle or bus due to (military or non-military) disability.
  • Veteran has no surviving spouse or competent family members that can represent them at the Summit County Veterans Service Commission.
Veteran of the Year

The Veteran of the Year Dinner is an annual outreach of appreciation to the veteran community. To identify and honor those veterans who go above and beyond the call of duty to serve their fellow veterans. The Veterans Service Commission relies upon all the Veteran Post within the Summit County area to bring these special individuals to light. Once these nominees are submitted, the VSC Board of Commissioners select a worthy recipient.

Adopt A Flag

The Adopt-a-Flag Program is a program in which we go into area schools to teach children about the history and importance of the American Flag. Each child is given a burial site flag with a certificate, then asked to make a commitment to adopt, display and care for their American Flag. The significance of adopting a burial site flag is to show respect and appreciation for our deceased veterans.

Mobile Meals

Summit County Veterans Service Commission provides assistance with Mobile Meals for eligible homebound and elderly veterans and widows of veterans. Determination for receiving this service is based on the financial information provided by the client. The law that governs our agency, Ohio Revised Code Title 5901, mandates that determination of eligibility be based on financial need and other factors relevant to your income, and or ability or inability to pay for your meals.
