AKC Canine Good Citizenship Training
What is it?
This is an 8 week course that will cover the principles of the American Kennel Club Good Citizenship test. This is a 10-step, non-competitive test evaluating basic manners and responsible pet ownership for all dog breeds. It serves as a benchmark for polite behavior in public and is a prerequisite for therapy dog training. Passing requires passing all 10 tests, including staying calm around strangers, grooming, and obedience
Who is welcome to attend?
The program and participation start with a veteran or widow of a veteran. Immediate family of the veteran living in the household are also welcome (as long as they are participating in the dog training and not disruptive to the class). Exceptions will be made at the trainers discretion
How many dogs may i bring?
Each registration must consist of the canine and the Veterandedicated handler. Additional pets with a dedicated handler will be allowed if space is available or at the trainers discretion
What is required of me and my canine?
- All dogs must be current on shots and vaccinations – Proof will be requested at first training.
- Leash (Simple), collar or vest training treats and muzzle (if needed). All dogs temperaments are different. If you are not able control your dog (due to size or strength) or your dog is very aggressive, a muzzle is required
- Homework: Each session will include training and reinforcement that needs completed throughout the week
