COVID-19 Statement

Update to in-person services

Veterans, Families and Community Partners,

Please be advised that due to precautions surrounding COVID-19 (coronavirus), the Summit County Veterans Service Commission has begun a series of new processes and procedures to help ensure the wellbeing of the community we serve and our staff. We encourage that any visitor to the Summit County VSC call us directly before visiting to find out the latest news regarding services and visit protocols for our location. Our phone number is: 330-643-2830.

Please note: any scheduled public meetings in Freedom Hall have been cancelled until further notice.

We will make every effort to keep everyone informed as to any further upcoming changes to services and protocols as this situation continues to evolve.

We have updated our procedures as follows:

  1. Expanded our availability for in-person consultations (although phone discussions remain preferable, when possible). Our walk-in procedure will continue to be preceded by a series of health-related questions, including:

    1. Is anyone in the home currently ill with a condition that is potentially contagious?
    2. Does anyone in the home have a chronic medical condition that compromises their health or may put them at higher risk for infection or illness?
    3. Does anyone in the home have a fever (100.4 or higher) and/or a cough and/or shortness of breath, and others;
  1. Additional protective measures
    1. As a risk-minimizing measure, all meeting spaces will include transparent partitions between our staff members and guests.
    2. Scheduled interviews or interviews to be scheduled during this time will be completed over the phone. We’ve opened some stations inside Freedom Hall to facilitate this activity.
  1. Transportation services to VA-health facilities
    1. We are continuing our transportation services to health care facilities during this precautionary time
    2. Please anticipate health-related questions such as:
      1. Is anyone in the home currently ill with a condition that is potentially contagious?
      2. Does anyone in the home have a chronic medical condition that compromises their health or may put them at higher risk for infection or illness?
      3. Does anyone in the home have a fever (100.4 or higher) and/or a cough and/or shortness of breath, and others;
  2. Condensed waiting room area
    1. In an effort to lower the risk of exposure to our Veteran community, we’ve limited the amount of seating availability in our waiting room

Please call us at 330-643-2830 prior to your visit to confirm service availability and protocol.

Please note: any scheduled public meetings in Freedom Hall have been cancelled until further notice.
