Laura Williams Dunlop named 2011 Vet of the Year
Laura Williams Dunlop has been serving others in one way or another throughout her entire life. Whether it be service to her country, community or family, Dunlop has devoted her life to helping others – which is exactly why she was the natural choice to receive
the 2011 Vet of the Year Award.
“Laura exemplifies what it means to serve,” said VSC Executive Director George Baker. “Her tireless volunteer efforts have bettered the lives of innumerous local veterans, and we can’t thank her enough for everything she’s done for both our organization and the community at large. We look forward to continuing to work with her for many years to come.”
A Korean War veteran, Dunlop joined the military soon after graduating high school. Upon completion of basic training and the 405 School for Clerks, she was assigned to work in the Pentagon. From there, Dunlop was sent to Yokohama, Japan where she served as a cryptographer with the Signal Corps. In 1953, after serving more than three years and earning the rank of corporal, Dunlop was discharged. Ever since then, she has committed herself to the advancement of local veterans.
